Sage ERP Accpac 6.x Product Roadmap
Sage ERP Accpac 5.6A recently shipped with:
- New Serialized Inventory, Lot Tracking
- Improved Bank Reconciliation
- Sage Accpac Intelligence
- Simplified Installation and Data Activation
- Free Training
- Built in A/R Inquiry Tool
- Many other great features.
Now we can look ahead to Sage ERP Accpac 6.0A and 6.1A. In previous blog posts I’ve talked about many of the features individually, but here I just want to summarize and present the current roadmap.
The main goal of Sage ERP Accpac 6.0A is: Solving Customer Requests with Web Technology
Usability: Improve Productivity
- Role Based, Personalized Portal
- Task Oriented Navigation
- Contextual User Assistance
Reporting: Faster Information Access
- Integrated Dashboards/KPI’s
- Ad-hoc Inquiry Tool – Quick Information Lists
Integration: Streamline Processes
- Enhanced Quote-to-Order Workflow for SageCRM Users
- Elimination of Lanpak Requirement for SageCRM User for Order Entry
- SageCRM 7.0 Support
Then the main goal of Sage ERP Accpac 6.1A is to bring all the Accpac Accounting Application screens to the Web. The Views (Accpac’s Business Logic), Reports and Database Schema will be largely the same as previous versions. The big change will be moving the User Interface forms from a Visual Basic Windows Desktop program to becoming a true Web Based application.

- Financials: General Ledger / Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable / Bank Services / Tax
- Operations: Order Entry / Inventory Control / Purchase Order

I am finding it difficult to find info on the SWT to be included with v.6. I read it is conceptually based on Google’s GWT. Does that mean applications will be constructed using Java?

The SWT SDK is posted here: http://dppwiki.accpac.com/wiki/Sage_Accpac_Next_Generation_SDK (you need to part of the Accpac Development Partner Program to access this Wiki).
Yes it means the application is written in Java. The server side runs under Java Servlets that communicate with our business logic View DLLs. The client uses GWT where you write in Java and it is compiled by the GWT compiler into JavaScript code.

Wow. And this is only an “A” upgrade!
I am very happy that you are working on process improvement. Makes such a huge difference in ROI for our end users.
Sometimes we forget that we are actually creating and selling a MACHINE that PRODUCES NUMBERS.
Sort of like a Manufacturing plant with different people feeding numbers (and now other stuff like pictures and invoices and letters) into their workstations in various formats and then they get “processed” into a finished product with lots of “by products”.
The INPUT users want SPEED and CONSISTANCY from applicatoin to application so that cross training is easy and quick.
The OUTPUT users want TIMELINES and FLEXIBIITy to get “Special order” information AFTER THE FACT!
This is what makes it so hard to create ERP/CRM systems. Thanks for hanging in there, even as we port over to new tools.

Not for general consumption yet. We are making it available to our ISV partners only at this point. Probably look for a general preview after our Insights conference in May.

As this post was made long ago, have there been any updates to the roadmap dates and release schedules. Our team here is getting really juiced about the updates to modern web standards; so any information would be helpful.

Very similar. I think a refined roadmap has been posted on our main web site. Next week Sage ERP Accpac 6.0A goes beta!

is it true that Sage is no longer developing ACCPAC any longer, and that ACCPAC is as good as dead?

No. Accpac is still being actively developed and there is a large development team working on it. The product name has changed from Sage ERP Accpac to Sage 300 ERP. Development is still going strong and Accpac continues as a Sage strategic international product.

Love your blog site – so much on it – haven’t seen a fraction of it yet, but look forward in going through it.
I have been an Accpac BP for 10 years now and never knew about your site.
Any idea when V6.1 is due as the roadmap that I saw earlier was for end 2011 – it is now middle 2012 ??

This posting is quite out of date. A new roadmap has been published for all partners. I think several partners reposted it on their websites so if you google you can find it. The 2012 release (6.1) as defined under the new roadmap is due out in September.
